GENTLE RIDE
← Gentle RidePrivacy Policy
Effective date: 2 November 2026
This policy covers the Gentle Ride iPhone app and this website, gentleride.app. Gentle Ride is made by an individual developer (GitHub: AyyJay2026), called "we" below.
The short version
Gentle Ride doesn't collect any data. We don't receive your trips, your motion readings or anything else about you. Everything Gentle Ride records stays on your phone, and it only leaves your phone if you tap Share.
What Gentle Ride doesn't do
- No location history. Gentle Ride uses GPS only to read the car's speed (see below). It never records, stores or shares where you are or where you went.
- No account or sign-in.
- No analytics, advertising or tracking. There are no third-party analytics or advertising tools in the app.
- No uploads. The app doesn't send your trips or readings to us or to anyone else.
- No connection to your car. It doesn't read anything from your vehicle.
- No camera, microphone, contacts or photos.
What it uses
While you're monitoring a drive, Gentle Ride reads your phone's motion sensors (accelerometer and gyroscope) to measure braking, acceleration and jolts. It stops reading them when you tap Stop.
It also needs location permission, to read the car's speed from GPS while you're monitoring (a trip won't start without it). It uses the speed to score fairly at low speed (speed bumps, parking), to tell when the car is stopped or parked, and to keep a drive going while you use another app. The coordinates are never kept: only the speed is used, and the trip's recording stores the speed, never a position. GPS stops when you tap Stop.
What's stored on your phone
To show your history, Gentle Ride saves these on your phone only:
- Trip summaries: date and time, length, smoothness score, event counts and an event timeline.
- Motion recordings for your last 10 trips: the sensor readings and GPS speed, timed from the start of the trip. No location. You can turn this off in Settings → Fine-tune → "Keep motion recordings for sharing".
- Your settings and the direction the phone faces in your car, so it doesn't have to learn it again.
It's kept in the app's own storage on your iPhone. We can't see it.
Sharing a trip
Each trip has a Share button. Only when you tap it, Gentle Ride makes a CSV file of that trip and opens your phone's share sheet. You choose where it goes, for example Messages, Mail, Files or a chat app.
The file holds the trip's motion readings and speed, its summary (including the date and time it started), your Gentle Ride settings, the learned phone direction, and your app version. It has no location.
Once you send it, the person or service you send it to handles it under their own privacy policy.
Deleting your data
- One trip: open Trip History and swipe left on the trip.
- Settings: Settings → Fine-tune → Reset all settings.
- Everything: delete the Gentle Ride app from your iPhone. That removes all its trips, recordings, settings and the learned phone direction.
We don't hold a copy, so there's nothing for us to delete on our side.
Services outside the app
- Apple: if you've chosen to share analytics with app developers in your iPhone settings, Apple may give us anonymous crash reports and usage statistics. Apple's privacy policy covers that. You can turn it off in Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements.
- This website: it's served by Cloudflare Pages and loads its fonts from Google Fonts. Like any website host, they may receive your IP address and browser type when a page loads, under their own privacy policies. The app itself never contacts them.
Children
Gentle Ride is a tool for drivers and isn't aimed at children. It collects no personal information from anyone, children included.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and its effective date. If Gentle Ride ever starts collecting data, we'll say so here and in the app before it happens.
